Conference hosts Kendra Initiative session on digital media distribution

WWW2006 is to host a speaker session on the impact of the Web on digital media distribution. The non-profit organisation Kendra Initiative is organising a speaker and panel session on the opening day of the conference, Tuesday 23rd May, as part of the Impact of the Web on Business track.

The Kendra Initiative is an independent, open architecture research project investigating, supporting and promoting the creation of an open marketplace for digital media. Its aim is to build protocols and bring together existing technologies to provide the entertainment industry with a platform for content distribution over the Internet. Their session will include presentations by Europe Online founder, Candace Johnson; the International Webcasting Association's Peggy Miles; Paul Jessop, CTO for the International Federation for the Phonographic Industry and Kendra Initiative founder Daniel Harris.

Daniel Harris said, "WWW2006 is the ideal opportunity for high level Web users, content owners and creators from the media industry to come and present their requirements to the Web's guardians. It is a unique opportunity to connect with the people shaping our online universe."

Candace Johnson has played a revolutionary role in European telecommunications. She has long campaigned against monopolies in the industry and has been particularly influential in the areas of deregulation and convergence of media.

Peggy Miles is founder and chairman of the International Webcasting Association, the largest non-profit trade organisation dedicated to the growth and development of webcasting. She has a personal mission to foster open communications of information around the world.

The IFPI is the trade association representing the international recording industry. As Chief Technology Officer, Paul Jessop is responsible for the collective technical activity in the industry. He is closely involved with the evolution of Internet related legislation and anti-piracy initiatives in the online and offline world.
