Conference chairs receive research recognitionTwo of the WWW2006 conference vice-chairs have just had their research recognised by national bodies. Frank van Harmelen, vice chair of the conference's Semantic Web track and Professor of Knowledge Representation & Reasoning in the Faculty of Science at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam has been selected to appear on Cream of Science, the Dutch National Selection of its most significant researchers. His latest book (A Semantic Web Primer) is the first real textbook on the Semantic Web covering XML, RDF, RDF Schema, OWL, logic and applications. Professor Ian Horrocks, vice chair of the Tutorials and Workshops track, has won the British Computer Society's Roger Needham award for outstanding British computer research. Sponsored by Microsoft Research Cambridge, it offers a prize together with an opportunity to give a public lecture on their work at the Royal Society. Ian has been announced as the second winner of the award, rewarding his pioneering work in a groundbreaking topic from recent Web conferences — the Semantic Web — that is set to revolutionise the Web for society and for business.
