The International World Wide Web Conference (WWW) is an annual international conference focused on the future direction of the World Wide Web. This year, WWW 2015 will be held at Florence, Italy. In recognition and support of the aims, values, and achievements of Web Science as a novel interdisciplinary research field, WWW 2015 will for a second year feature a Web Science Track.

The scale of the Web’s impact, its transformative nature for the society and the rate of its adoption are unparalleled in human history. In order to understand what the Web is, engineer its future and ensure its social benefit a new interdisciplinary field emerged, called Web Science. Web Science focuses on the analysis and design of the Web architecture, data and applications, as well as studies of the people, organizations, and policies that shape and are shaped by the Web. Accordingly, Web Science embraces the study of the Web as a vast information network of people and communities. It also includes the study of people and communities using the digital records of user activity mediated by the Web. An understanding of human behavior and social interaction can contribute to our understanding of the Web, and data obtained from the Web can contribute to our understanding of human behavior and social interaction.

“All Web Science track papers will be published in the companion proceedings of the WWW conference. Extended versions of selected papers published in this track will be invited for submission to the Journal of Web Science”.

This track focuses on all aspects of Web Science. As Web Science is inherently interdisciplinary and combines research from disciplines as diverse as social science, sociology, digital humanities, philosophy, art and history, computer science, economics and mathematics, papers are expected to demonstrate interdisciplinary work contributing new models, algorithms, data analysis, frameworks and applications with direct domain relevance and interdisciplinary impact. Papers should be clearly positioned within a use case and convey clearly the importance of the contribution and findings to the state-of-the-art in the explicit Web Science disciplines.

Submission Requirements

All submitted papers must:

be written in English
contain author names, affiliations, and email addresses
be formatted according to the ACM SIG Proceedings template (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates) with a font size no smaller than 9pt
be in PDF (make sure that the PDF can be viewed on any platform), and formatted for US Letter size
occupy no more than 6 pages, including the abstract and appendices, but excluding references.

It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that their submissions adhere strictly to the required format. Submissions that do not comply with the above guidelines may be rejected without review. Submissions must represent new and original work. Papers that have been published elsewhere, are currently under review, or will be submitted to other meetings or publications while under WWW2015-Web Science Track review should not be submitted to this track.

Accepted papers must be presented at the conference by an author who is registered to attend. At least one author of every paper needs to register by the early-bird deadline so that session chairs can make plans for its presentation.
