Volunteers

Welcome to the WWW2006 conference volunteers information page. This is the place to find quick answers to some important questions regarding volunteering for WWW2006. New information will be updated periodically.

Who are Volunteers?

Typically volunteers are people with an involvement in the World Wide Web, who are interested in experiencing the conference but otherwise, could not afford to attend. They can be students or industry professionals. Presenters with accepted posters or papers may volunteer to subsidise their registration costs.

What can I expect to do at the conference?

The program has evolved a lot over the last 14 conferences and the volunteer role is now defined as technical support. We are looking for people with knowledge and experience in building and running a large distributed network to supply connectivity for the conference. We are also looking for people to set up and operate the specialised AV equipment that a conference of this type requires, act as room monitors, help/registration desk attendants and whatever else may be required to ensure the smooth running of the conference.

What qualifications do I need?

You don't have to be an expert! Students and enthusiasts work alongside industry professionals. Enthusiasm and interest are important qualities. There are usually more applicants than positions so make sure you use the spaces provided in the registration form to tell us as much about yourself as possible. You must have a good attitude and an interest in the web but you definitely don't need a degree in computer science. The conference is a great place to learn more about web development and authoring but this kind of experience is not particularly relevant to volunteering. We are about Routers and Projectors, not HTML and XML.

What do I get?

Volunteers receive a Passport Registration which allows access to all days of the conference as well as all social events. You will be required to work 25 hours in exchange. A limited number of accommodated positions are available for those requiring it in exchange for 40 hours work. Volunteers receive a copy of proceedings on CD Rom as well as any other resources available to delegates. Lunch is provided each day as well as access to the conference dinner, receptions etc.

How do I get to experience the conference?

Once you have been accepted as a volunteer you will be asked to provide a preferred work schedule. We will attempt to schedule your work commitments around your requirements. If you are presenting a paper, poster or workshop you can request to be rostered off for that time. If there is a session you particularly want to attend, you can either be rostered off or assigned to that session as a room monitor.

How do I apply?

Applications for Volunteer Positions are now closed. Thanks for your interest.
