Steven Gaines

Steve has over 18 years experience in the computing industry having graduated in Computer Science in 1985. He has held a number of technical management roles with ICL, Stratus and Sun Microsystems specialising in EDI, Integration and Web Services. Steve joined Novell in 2002 as part of the SilverStream acquisition as Technical Director and since November 2005 Steve has taken up the position of Business Strategy Director for Novell. His ultimate ambition is to go into Space.

Synopsis

The Higgins Trust Framework is an Open Source initiative that intends to address four challenges: the lack of common interfaces to identity/networking systems, the need for interoperability, the need to manage multiple contexts, and the need to respond to regulatory, public or customer pressure to implement solutions based on trusted infrastructure that offers security and privacy.

In this presentation, Novell will discuss the purposes of the project, its implications for the online society and how citizens will benefit from and take control of their digital identity.
