Abstract:

The Web has proven to be an efficient means of distributing information in a university setting. Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College are using the Web to support student learning. The Department of Instructional Science at Brigham Young University maintains a central repository of information about their program, which is used as an orientation program and information center. In the Computer Science Department at Brigham Young University, WWW pages are used in conjunction with a newsgroup and email to create a paperless class. The Computer Science and Information Systems Department and the Distance Learning Center at Utah Valley State College use the Web to supplement instruction in classes and to distribute course materials. Students and professors at both Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College have expressed favorable reactions towards these uses of the web. Shared information builds a strong sense of community and increases a student's ability to succeed.
