Call for Participation - ACM SIGWEB Fair Access Grant

We are pleased to announce the ACM SIGWEB Fair Access Grant program for WWW 2025! This initiative aims to reduce financial barriers for students and early-career researchers from economically developing countries, enabling broader participation in the conference and fostering a more inclusive academic community.


Grant Amount:

The overall budegetted funds is 10,000 USD in total that will be shared by multiple awardees. The size of the award to an individual may vary depending on various factors such as the number of qualified applicants or the distance traveled. This grants broadens student support in order to also include (students and) early researchers from economically developing countries (according to a list compiled by ACM, see template text below).


Eligibility Criteria:

The grants are open to all Master and PhD students, as well as to post-doctoral researchers, or non-tenured professionals who are residents in any of the countries listed at ACM’s Economically Developing Countries List. The grant may be used to support travel to the conference, including flights, accommodation costs, and other costs related to obtaining a VISA.


Application Process:

To apply, please follow these steps:

  1. Submit the basic information in an Excel file:

  • An Excel file to include items with below order: Applicant’s Name, Gender, Research Institution/University, Country, Paper title in WWW’25, Tracks in WWW’25, Referee, Referee’s position, Reason to request support. NOTE: The selection committee will merge all candidate’s information into one Excel file for reviewing. 

  2. Prepare the Following Documents (in a single PDF file):

  • Student’s full name and email address
  • 1 - 2 pages of Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • A support letter from research advisor to confirm the student status and the commitment of the student to attend the conference. It is also important to explain why there is insufficient support to the student’s travel.
  • Evidence of eligibility (e.g., valid student ID, letter from supervisor, profile page on university website)
  • A PDF file to include the cost of the required reimbursement items.

  3. Submit Your Application via EasyChair under the track:

  • Submission Link: https://login.easychair.org/my/conference?conf=www25companion
  • Log in to EasyChair as an author and locate the conference WWW 2025 
  • Click “New Submission”.
  • Select the track “Student and Fair Access Support”, fill up the submission and upload your documents.


Important Dates:

  • Application Submission Deadline: 20 April 2025
  • Acceptance Notification: 24 April 2025


Selection Committee:

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprising:

  • Prof. Yang Xiang, Grant Chair, Swinburne University of Technology
  • Prof. Guodong Long, General Co-chair, University of Technology Sydney (UTS)
  • Prof. Hady Wirawan Lauw, Diversity Co-chair, Singapore Management University (SMU)
  • Prof. Lexing Xie, Diversity Co-chair, Australian National University (ANU)

The committee will evaluate applications based on eligibility, financial need, relevance, and potential impact of attendance.


Reimbursement Procedure:

Awardees will be required to initially cover expenses themselves and subsequently submit receipts for reimbursement through the ACM reimbursement portal. Detailed instructions on reimbursement procedures will be provided upon grant approval.
