Workshops
WWW2017 will feature a number of workshops that are intended to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners in web technologies to discuss and exchange positions on current and emergent web topics.
Workshops
Workshop participants will exchange ideas and experience, establish common ground in research areas or practical problems, and hopefully identify new opportunities for collaboration and new directions for future activity.
The workshops will take place at the conference venue, the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, on Monday 3 April and Tuesday 4 April, 2017. Fourteen full day and seven half day workshops have been accepted. Where available, a workshop website has been linked to the title, webpages are available for a number of authors, and a brief description provided about the workshop. More of these will be added as they become available.
Workshops will be scheduled so as to avoid conflicts with conference sessions in similar or related areas. A tentative schedule has been set out below. The exact schedule will be released closer to the conference date.

Monday 3 April - Full day
(TempWeb2017): 7th Temporal Web Analytics Workshop
TempWeb focuses on investigating infrastructures, scalable methods, and innovative software for aggregating, querying, and analysing heterogeneous data at Internet scale. Particular emphasis will be given to temporal data analysis along the time dimension for Web data that has been collected over extended time periods.
(SAVE-SD2017): Semantics, Analytics and Visualisation: Enhancing Scholarly Data
SAVE-SD 2017 brings together publishers, companies and researchers from different fields (including Document and Knowledge Engineering, Semantic Web, Natural Language Processing, Scholarly Communication, Bibliometrics, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Visualisation, Bioinformatics, and Life Sciences) to bridge the gap between theory and practice in regards to scholarly data. It will address the semantics, analytics, visualisation and interaction with scholarly data.

(LDOW2017): 10th International Workshop on Linked Data on the Web
The Web is developing from a medium for publishing textual documents into a medium for sharing structured data. This trend is fuelled by the adoption of Linked Data principles by a growing number of data providers and the increasing trend to include semantic markup of content of HTML pages. LDOW2017 aims to stimulate discussion and further research into the challenges of publishing, consuming, and integrating structured data from the Web as well as mining knowledge from the global Web of Data.
(BIGSCHOLAR2017): 4th WWW Workshop on Big Scholarly Data: Towards the Web of Scholars
BigScholar 2017 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working on Big Scholarly Data to discuss emerging research issues and how to explore the Web of Scholars. Several core challenges, such as the tools and methods for analysing and mining scholarly data will be the main centre of discussion.

(FATWeb 2017): Fairness, Accountability and Transparency on the Web - CANCELLED
This workshop deals with issues of: Fairness - measuring and avoiding discrimination in web-based services; Accountability - auditing and proving socially-impactful properties of web-based services, and; Transparency - communicating the logic behind decisions of web-based services.

(CYBERSAFETY2017): 2nd International Workshop on Computational Methods in CyberSafety
Cybersafety is an emerging research topic and this workshop will discuss computational methods for addressing it. Cybersafety issues include: cyberbullying; cyberthreats; recruiting minors via Internet services for nefarious purposes; using deceptive means to dupe vulnerable populations; exhibiting misbehaving behaviours such as using profanity or flashing in online video chats; spreading rumours or hate speech via WWW services amongst others.

(GoNativeAds 2017): Going Native with Ads on the Web - CANCELLED
Native ad marketplaces - one of the fastest growing businesses of the online advertising market - serve users with ads that are rendered to resemble the surrounding native content. Native ads are considered less intrusive and usually provide better user experience than other ad types. The objective of this workshop is to focus on the Native ads marketplace, its unique characterisation, and consider the research and engineering challenges it poses.

(SNOW2017): 4th Workshop on Social News on the Web
The Web has generated an epochal change in the way we consume news, disrupting the journalism industry by changing the news cycle that leads professional journalists to build news and casual news readers to consume it. With the Web being the largest public data repository in the world, new tools need to be developed for journalists to verify hypotheses, link events and support claims, thus providing readers with filtered, high-quality content relevant to their interest and giving rise to a new form of data-driven journalism.

(AW4city2017): 3rd International ACM Smart City Workshop-Enhancing Livability with Web Applications for Smart Cities
AW4city 2017 will address web-based applications and Apps’ design and development in the smart city and urban context. It will focus on innovative applications and their implementation on the web for Smart Cities. It will address the impact of the economy; mobility; the environment; quality of life; people; and governance with an emphasis on the contribution of web applications and Apps to city livability. AW4City 2017 will address increasing criticism that the smart city represents an ambiguous urban utopia.

(LD-DL2017): 1st Workshop on Linked Data and Distributed Ledgers
Distributed Ledgers have emerged as a novel way to manage and exchange different types of digital assets among a large number of agents operating in a decentralised way within a user community. To be applicable to a wider and more complex range of applications, distributed ledgers will need to be able to interoperate, both with existing distributed systems and databases technologies, and among each other. This workshop is a forum for researchers and practitioners from Distributed Ledgers and Linked Data to come together to discuss common challenges, propose solutions to shortcomings of existing architectures and identify synergies for joint initiatives.

(LocWeb2017): 7th International Workshop on Location and the Web
LocWeb is firmly at the intersection of location-based services and Web architecture. Its focus lies in Web-scale services and systems facilitating location-aware information access. This broad issue covers information access, semantics and standards, and Web-scale systems and services. New application areas for Web architecture, such as the Internet of Things will lead to increasingly rich and large sets of applications for which location is highly relevant - a subject that will continue to provide challenging research questions into the future.

Wikipedia is one of the most popular sites on the Web, a main source of knowledge for a large fraction of Internet users, and one of the very few projects that make not only their content but also many activity logs available to the public. Furthermore, other Wikimedia projects, such as Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons, have been created to share other types of knowledge with the world for free. For a variety of reasons (quality and quantity of content, reach in many languages, process of content production, availability of data, etc.) such projects have become important objects of study for researchers across many subfields of the computational and social sciences. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers exploring all aspects of Wikimedia websites such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Commons and facilitate a direct pathway for exchanging ideas between the organisation that operates Wikimedia websites and the researchers interested in studying them.
(WOW2017): Web Observatory Workshop 2017
This workshop brings together participants associated with data sharing; re-use of data and applications; study of social machines; decentralisation of Web infrastructure and services; and emerging research challenges when these are combined with the Internet of Things (IoT). It explores the challenges of interoperability and distributed analytics across the growing number of Web services, Web Observatories, and most recently, IoT devices, and issues around the decentralisation of Web infrastructure and social machines, with a specific focus on the decentralisation of scholarly communications.

While abundant research has been conducted around the many data science facets of the Web, Web Mail has received much less attention. Web Mail is becoming an emerging topic of Web research in areas such as mail mining, clustering and classification, security and privacy, anti-spam, and mail search. This workshop will for the first time gather research in the emerging research area of Web Mail, aiming to encourage its growth and adoption.
(IWSC2017): 1st International Workshop on Social Computing
The goal of this workshop is to invent new techniques and approaches to explain user-to-user relationships in the physical world based on their cyber information. This is important for industries seeking to extract useful data and build their knowledge bases to improve their business service quality, especially when the data is big and complex. The workshop will encourage researchers to invent efficient data processing techniques and to discover new and valuable knowledge, thus triggering new questions for researchers.

(SST2017): Sustainability and Smart Technology Workshop
In this workshop we introduce the terms sustainability, smart technology, Green IT, and Cloud Computing; identify their advantages and disadvantages; and examine sustainability awareness. This workshop seeks to ask researchers, educators, businesses and individuals to think about: What is sustainability; Why is it important? How to be a sustainable person or business; and Why is it essential to use green technology?
(MSM2017): 8th International Workshop on Modeling Social Media
This workshop will focus on the application of machine learning and AI approaches and algorithms to social media, big data and the web. We aim to discuss various novel aspects of knowledge learning, recommendation, community discovery, social influence and prediction from social media, big data and the web covering topics that deal with user activities and social predictable behaviour that can be inferred from analysis and data mining using suitable machine learning and AI methods.

(CISC2017): 2nd International Workshop on Crowd Intelligence for Smart Cities: Technology and Applications - CANCELLED
Cities are experiencing significant challenges in areas such as efficient energy management, economic growth and development, security and the quality of life of their citizens. In the era of big data, mobile internet and cloud computing, we are now provided with good opportunities to leverage the crowd intelligence to better understand and manage the city. This workshop will discuss, identify and share experiences surrounding the construction of smart city systems, city context analysis and its application, and deployment experiences based on the crowd intelligence.
