The 20th International World Wide Web Conference (WWW 2011) shall be held from 28th March 2011 to 1st April 2011 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC), Hyderabad, India.

India is young and old at the same time. With a history of heritage, learning and civilization dating back to almost 5000 years or more, the Modern India presents itself as an ideal Conference and Tourist destination. From snow clad mountains to breezy sparkling blue sea side, from arid desert with shifting sand dunes to lush green country sides, from ancient relics and architectural ruins dating back into antiquity to modern cities, India has it all!  It is a country of diversity and contrasts that mesmerizes one and all with its mystery, its spirituality and its magical pull.

The theme for WWW 2011 is “Web for All” to promote the all inclusive aspect of Web and is being hosted by International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore in cooperation with International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. In this WWW2010 Keynote, Carl Malamud will relate the story of his encounters with 7 bureaucratic institutions in his quest to convince government that if law is code, then it must be open source. Starting with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the days before the Web and moving on to today’s Law.Gov movement, Carl will present his case that materials, be they technical standards or court opinions, must be available to all.

Carl Malamud is founder and director of Public.Resource.Org a nonprofit corporation that has placed over 90 million pages of U.S. government documents on the Internet, including a large number of judicial opinions, public safety codes, and other materials that were never publicly available before. Public.Resource.Org has also been responsible for removing information that contains Social Security numbers and other protected private information from the Internet, and running a series of audits that have resulted changes in both the U.S. Congress and the federal judiciary. Creating your own ARIA compliant UI widgets with HTML and XHTML

Developers face plenty of challenges for creating cross browser dynamic web pages. Search engines provide access to plenty of examples for how to achieve particular user interface effects, but very few take into account what is needed to support assistive technologies for people with disabilities. This talk will present examples to show how easy it is to create a variety of common user interface widgets that comply to the latest draft proposals for W3C WAI-ARIA guidelines using clean markup and simple scripts. WWW2010 attendees are invited to the conference dinner and concert on Thursday evening at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts, which is adjacent to the Raleigh Convention Center one block south.

The dinner will be held in the Arts Center lobby and the outdoor plaza. It will feature traditional North Carolina cuisine, such as pulled pork barbecue, shrimp and grits, and black-eyed peas, as well as locally brewed beers and selected wines from the region.

The concert will begin at 7:30 PM in Meymandi Concert Hall. It will feature the Carolina Chocolate Drops, a sensational musical group that has been playing sold-out shows across the country. Read the rest of this entry »
