Due to the unfolding coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and travel restrictions, the international volunteer program has been canceled

However, the local volunteers will be recruited instead. The accepted local applicants will be notified by email on or before 30-March.

Arrangements Update Due to the COVID-19

Dear WebConf Community,

Thank you for your kind response in support of our decision to keep The Web Conference 2020 and move it online. We would like to update you on the current situation with the COVID-19 and the conference.

  1. COVID-19 Update

    On February 28, the WHO has increased the assessment of the risk of spread and impact of COVID-19 to very high at the global level. Nonetheless, Taiwan continues to have an effective and excellent record in fighting the spread of the virus. Currently, there is no lockdown in Taipei and people are going about their normal business wearing sanitary masks and with high hygienic standards. We suggest that you review the information on the WHO site and its “Situation reports” section, which has more detailed statistics.

    At this time, we advise all delegates outside of Taiwan to participate in the online The Web Conference 2020, Taipei.

  2. The Web Conference 2020 is still ON and ONLINE

    We are delighted to have Zoom as our sponsor to deliver our online conference! We are now in the process of coming up with policies and documentations to ensure a smooth operation. In essence, we will provide several presentation modes for our participants: in-person presentation, online Zoom presentation, uploaded video presentation, etc. We will also have ways for the speaker to interact with the audience through Zoom’s video, Zoom’s chat function, etc. All registered participants will have Zoom access to almost all technical events. Moreover, we are also working with a local media company to provide Internet streaming of keynote sessions and special tracks.

    For other events such as tutorials, workshops, panels, posters, demos, special tracks, etc., we shall have more instructions and information available in due course.

  3. 1-for-5 Online Registration
    1. We will continue to have our physical meetings at the conference venue for local attendees and those who choose to attend in-person. The regular registration is still available with all social events such as welcome reception, breaks, luncheons, banquet, etc. including additional goodies and the opportunity to meet with our exhibitors and sponsors that are present at the conference venue, subject to governmental regulation.
    2. For the online conference, we will soon be offering a 1-for-5 online registration (for the same price of a student’s one-day registration of NTD $6,000). Online registrations will have access to ALL presentations at The Web Conference 2020, Taipei from April 20-24.
    3. Moreover, we would like to thank the organizers and speakers of tutorials, workshops, panels, and special tracks by providing you with a complimentary online registration. We understand that you may not be able to attend the conference in person, but we hope you can still participate and meet with our delegates online.
    4. For those who had registered earlier and are not authors associated with a paper, if you decide to attend online, we will refund the difference. For those who decide otherwise, we will provide other cancellation policies shortly.

We hope this will provide you with flexibility and options in participating the conference.

Your safety is our foremost priority at The Web Conference 2020, Taipei, and we are working very hard behind the scenes in making this conference a safe and successful one. We are also doing our best to keep the online registration fee low to encourage participation in the inaugural online Web Conference event. It is our hope that when we look back many years from now, we will remember how our community came together in combating the COVID-19 situation. So join with us online at The Web Conference 2020, Taipei from April 20-24, 2020.

We wish to express our sincere thanks for all applicants who are sending their applications with a huge interest in the Volunteership of The Web Conference 2020.

Please note that the final results will be released on March 19, 2020. We believe this is a great program for many of you—not only the free registration of the conference, but also an unforgettable opportunity to discover Taipei, the Heart of Asia. You would definitely return in a heartbeat.

Important Arrangements and Updates due to the COVID-19 Crisis

Dear WebConf Community,

We hope this open letter finds you well, despite the urgent COVID-19 situation in this region of the world. As your safety is our top priority and concern, we are writing this letter in the hope of providing some timely information so that you can better plan your participation of The Web Conference 2020, Taipei.

  1. COVID-19 Update

    According to the World Health Organization (WHO), China remains a high risk country at this time. Although there are fewer cases elsewhere, the global risk is not to be underestimated. Nonetheless, Taipei has a comprehensive and efficient health system and the situation is under control with only a few confirmed cases with no increase of new cases in recent days. Despite our sincere hope that the situation in Taipei will continue to improve, we request that you review the information on the WHO site and its “Situation reports” section, which has more detailed statistics. We will also continue to provide updated and timely information on The Web Conference 2020 website to keep you informed.

  2. The Web Conference 2020 is still ON and ONLINE

    Despite the multiple options we have reviewed, at this time our plan is to still hold The Web Conference 2020 in Taipei from April 20-24. However, we are doing our best with multiple vendors to investigate the possibility to provide remote presentation and online capabilities for presenters and organizers alike. This is a first for this conference series so we are working very hard to ensure smooth operation for all participants before announcing further details. So please stay tuned.

  3. Registration for Author of Accepted Papers

    All accepted research track papers MUST have at least ONE Regular 3- or 5-day paid registration (NOT Student registration) by February 20, 2020. All other accepted papers including poster, workshop, demo, etc. MUST have at least ONE Regular 1-, 3-, or 5-day paid registration (NOT Student registration) by February 20, 2020. These registrations are to cover the presentation set up, publication cost, other related expenses, etc. The accepted paper will not be published if no registration is associated with the paper by February 21, 2020. Again, we are working on the remote presentation system for ALL presenters as an option (more details later).

  4. Early Bird Deadline Extended

    We are extending the Early Bird deadline by four weeks to March 19, 2020. We recommend you to delay your registration a bit until we are satisfied with our remote presentation and online capabilities (progress will be announced in due course). Furthermore, you may want to consider not to make any airline booking nor accommodation reservation at this time, but wait for the situation to settle before completing your trip itinerary.

The darkest hour is just before the dawn! We would like to thank many people who are working tirelessly behind the scene supporting the conference despite the current crisis situation. We are also thankful for your support to The Web Conference series, and hope that your participation will make The Web Conference 2020, Taipei a successful and memorable one!

Special Announcement for the 2019 n-Cov

Date of Release:

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Taiwan, the 2019-nCoV is not trending in Taiwan. No travel alert is issued internationally. Moreover, strict monitoring is in progress.

The Web Conference 2020 will be convened in Taipei as scheduled, with seamless resource integration and thorough prevention safeguards fully in operation.
