Reminder: Online Registration Deadline Approaching

The deadline for online conference registration is April 14. After that, all registrations will have to be processed in person at BICC, the conference facility.

Schedule of the Registration Desk

You will find the WWW2008 Registration Desk in the lobby of Beijing International Convention Center (BICC). The registration desk will be open according to the following schedule:

Call for "Birds of a Feather" (BOF) Sessions

WWW2008 organizers would like to invite conference attendees to submit a one-page proposal on "Birds of a Feather" sessions to discuss timely topics of interest not covered by the WWW2008 program. If you are interested, please submit your proposal to bof@www2008.org.

Beijing Tourist Information

WWW2008 has prepared a special page on Beijing to give conference attendees a list of available options to enjoy China's capital city and nearby areas. We hope the list will help you plan your stay in Beijing. You can sign up for these tours on site at the conference facility. For more information visit the tourist information page.

WWW2008 Airport Reception

There will be a welcome desk at Beijing International Airport, and WWW2008 volunteers there will be ready to help you with the information of Beijing and WWW2008, e.g., how to go to the conference center, where is the ATM, how to get a SIM card, etc, with the aim to make your WWW2008 trip more comfortable. Please note that these welcome desks are set in Terminal 2 and 3 only according to the following schedule:

Updates on Student Travel Support

Second Round Application:

Lenovo has joined IBM, Microsoft, IFIP, and AT&T as a student travel sponsor. The goal of the travel support program is to encourage participation in the WWW 2008 conference by students that would normally find it difficult to attend. The fund will be used for the second round application.

The students that were not selected in our first-round selection will be considered automatically and do not need to resubmit their applications again. At the same time, we welcome new applicants to apply for the student travel award by following the instructions at Student Travel Awards page at the students information page.

Application Deadline: April 13, 2008 (11:59pm EST)

Awards will be announced on a merit basis, and announced by April 18th, 2008 New applications should be sent to Email: students at www2008.org. Those who have applied for the Google Travel Scholarship for Female Students (see info below) will not be considered in this round of selection.

Lenovo

Lenovo is an international technology company formed as a result of the acquisition by the Lenovo Group of the IBM Personal Computing Division. As a global leader in the PC market, Lenovo develops, manufactures and markets PC products and value-added professional services around the world.

Google Travel Scholarship for Female Students

Google is partnering with WWW 2008 to offer partial travel support to encourage more female students to attend and participate in the WWW2008 conference. Applications are accepted from students attending recognized degree-granting institutions around the world. Google encourages more diverse and representative participation in the technology industry. Details for application procedures can be found the scholarship's information page.

Hotel Reservation Update

All the 350 rooms in Continental Grand Hotel for WWW2008 have been reserved. There is another hotel near BICC (conference facility), but WWW2008 does not have any contract with this hotel for special rates:

Baidu has signed up to be our banquet sponsor for WWW2008. Baidu, founded in 2000, is listed in Nasdaq in 2005 (bidu). The Chinese language search engine successfully dominated Chinese market in 2007 (70% plus market share) and generated 1.74 billion (RMB) revenue with 108% growing rate. Over 150,000 medium/small-sized domestic enterprises, stated-owned corporations and Chinese branch of multinationals have benefited from Baidu's marketing services. Additionally, Baidu has extended its success by many of other innovative online products and services that provide both excellent user experience and market value for corporate clients.

Betavine

Betavine, our new Bronze sonsor, is an initiative of Vodafone Group R&D, and our mission is to support the wider development community in imagining, developing, testing and launching great new applications for mobile, wireless and Internet communications.

We invite the attendees of WWW2008 to make use of Betavine as a platform to upload their prototypes, work-in-progress, and any applications that they would like to make readily available to other attendees. We will be running a special promotion from now until the 30th of April to award an extra 100 credits towards use of the Betavine network APIs to anyone who uploads an application to Betavine and tags it www2008.
