WWW2005 CALL FOR PAPERS
The International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2) and Keio University cordially invite you to participate in the Fourteenth International World Wide Web Conference on May 10-14, 2005, in Chiba, Japan.
The first international WWW conference was held in 1994 at CERN where the Web was born. Since then, the conference series has been the oppotunity for both academics and industries to present, demonstrate and discuss the latest ideas and developments about Web.
WWW2005 will be held in Chiba, Japan at Nippon Convention Center (or better known as Makuhari Messe). The technical program will include refereed paper presentations, special interest tracks, plenary sessions, panels, and poster sessions. Tutorials and workshops will precede the main program, and a Developers Day will follow, which will be devoted to in-depth technical sessions designed specifically for web developers.
Makuhari Messe is conveniently located halfway between central Tokyo and the New Tokyo International Airport (Narita Airport). From the airport, it can be reached by bus or car in 30 minutes. Tokyo statison is also only 30 minutes away by train (the JR Keiyo Line).

Author notification dates have been changed from the original announcement. Paper author notification changed from Jaunuary 24 to Janunary 28 and poster one changed from February 14 to March 7. Tutorial/workshop proposals deadline changed from October 11 to October 15.
Paper submission deadline has been extended to 5PM EST on Wednesday, November 10th, due to the server problem.
REFEREED PAPERS TRACK
WWW2005 seeks original papers describing research in all areas of the web. Papers should not have been published or be in submission at another conference or journal. Topics include but are not limited to:
- Applications
- Browsers and User Interfaces
- Data Mining
- Education
- Performance and Reliability
- Search
- Security, Privacy and E-Commerce
- Semantic Web
- Web Engineering
- XML and Web Services
Submissions should present original reports of substantive new work. Papers should properly place the work within the field, cite related work, and clearly indicate the innovative aspects of the work and its contribution to the field. We will not accept any paper which, at the time of submission, is under review for or has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal or another conference.
Papers will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 reviewers from an International Program Committee. Accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and will also be accessible to the general public via http://www2005.org/. SPECIAL INTEREST TRACKS
Special interest tracks include a combination of peer-reviewed papers and invited presentations. Accepted papers will appear in printed proceedings, separate from the main refereed track proceedings.

INDUSTRIAL AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE TRACK
The Industrial and Practical Experience Track provides a forum for vendors, open source developers, and industry, academic, and government deployers. Call for papers for the Industrial and Practical Experience Track.
POSTERS
Posters provide a forum for late-breaking research, and facilitate feedback in an informal setting. Posters are peer-reviewed. The poster area provides an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present and demonstrate their recent web-related research, and to obtain feedback from their peers in an informal setting. It gives conference attendees a way to learn about innovative works in progress in a timely and informal manner. Formatting and submission requirements are available at http://www2005.org/posters/.
TUTORIALS AND WORKSHOPS
A program of tutorials will cover topics of current interest to web design, development, services, operation, use, and evaluation. These half and full-day sessions will be led by internationally recognized experts and experienced instructors using prepared content.
Workshops provide an opportunity for researchers, designers, leaders, and practitioners to explore current web R&D issues through a more focused and in-depth manner than is possible in a traditional conference session. Participants typically present position statements and hold in-depth discussions with their peers within the workshop setting.
PANELS
Panels provide an interactive forum that will engage both panelists and the audience in lively discussion of important and often controversial issues. For more information and submission details see http://www2005.org/panels/.
AWARDS
The following awards will be presented at the conference: Best Paper, Best Student Paper, Best Special Interest Track Paper, Best Special Interest Track Student Paper, Best Poster, Best Student Poster and Best Presentation.
DEVELOPERS DAY
Developers Day (D-Day) will be devoted to the interests of web developers, and will offer in-depth discussions of technologies and tools at the forefront of the web. This day-long program will consist of several parallel streams focused on specific content areas. D-Day sessions are designed to be timely and state-of-the-art.

BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE OF HOLDING THE CONFERENCE IN JAPAN
The Web is an essential part of the Japanese society, and research and development on the Web are actively carried out among universities and corporations in Japan.
Japanese delegates are present in every Conference, and it has long been desired that Japan hosts a Conference.
The Conference Series moves between the United States and Europe and then again the United States and Asia (including Oceania), and the last Conference held in Asia was WWW2001 in Hong Kong.After WWW2001, the Conference Series was moved to Hawaii in 2002 and Budapest in 2003 and will move to New York in 2004 and then Japan in 2005.
Japan's hosting a Conference is expected to accelerate the research and development efforts on the Web technology by the universities and corporations.
Also, the Conference is intended to provide a good opportunity to reevaluate not only mere technical issues but also the role the Web plays in the society.
