WWW in Ibero-America Alternate Track

The "WWW in Ibero-America" alternate track will provide a forum for academics and industry to present and discuss the latest progress of Web technologies in the Ibero-American community.
The track will also serve as a platform for the world to better understand the Internet in Ibero-America, and for Ibero-America to listen to the world. The technical program for the three-day track will include refereed paper presentations, panels, and keynote speeches from some of most influential leaders in Ibero-American industry and academia.

Scope

We solicit original papers describing research in all areas of the Web related to Ibero-America. In particular we welcome papers that address:

• Challenging issues raised by specific characteristics of the Web in Ibero-America.
• Web phenomena related to Ibero-American culture, languages, and users.
• Emerging new Web applications and technologies in Ibero-America.

We encourage the Ibero-American community to submit quality papers whose main contribution is due to the specificity of being applied to Ibero-American environment and culture, thus providing a more focused, in-depth, and interactive environment than will be possible in the main conference, regardless their scientific originality or cutting-edge character.

Submision Details

Original, high quality contributions that are not yet published or that are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences are sought. Late-breaking advances and work-in-progress reports from ongoing research are also encouraged for submission. Manuscripts should be submitted via the general conference’s Refereed Papers Submission site at EasyChair.

Authors are requested to submit their papers strictly in the conference format (up to 10 pages overall, including title, references, figures, diagrams, appendices, etc.). Submissions exceeding the above mentioned paper size or incorrectly formatted will most likely be rejected without reviewing. Please also note that English is the only language adopted in the overall conference, including this alternate track. All papers MUST be written in English.

Proceedings

All accepted refereed papers will be included in the WWW 2009 conference proceedings and published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and will also be accessible to the general public via the conference website.

Panels

Panels should focus on emerging technologies, controversial issues, social singularities or unsolved problems in the Ibero-American World Wide Web community to stimulate lively, thoughtful, and thought-provoking debate. We expect the panelists to actively engage the audience and help them gain a deeper understanding of the issues. The goal of a panel is to debate and thus panels should always reflect more than one point of view.

All areas of interests to Ibero-American WWW participants are acceptable as a panel topic. Panel proposals will be accepted on the basis of their audience appeal, credentials of panelists, originality, and focus on disputed topics. A rolling acceptance policy will be followed: panel submissions will be considered as they arrive, and while most will receive deferred decisions, some may be immediately accepted or returned to the proposer for improvement.
