This is the eighth issue of the WWW2007 Newsletter. In this issue:
Tim Berners-Lee is the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium, Senior Researcher at MIT, where he leads the Decentralized Information Group, and Professor of Computer Science at University of Southampton. While working at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, he invented the World Wide Web. It was there where he wrote the first Web client (a combination of browser and editor) and the first Web server. Berners-Lee original specifications of URLs, HTTP and HTML were widely adopted and refined as Web technology spread. Over the years, Tim has received many international awards, including The MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant, Japan Prize, the Prince of Asturias Foundation Prize, the Millennium Technology Prize , and Germany's Die Quadriga Award. Widely recognized as one of the greatest visionaries of our time, Tim Berners-Lee was given the rank of Knight Commander (the second-highest rank in the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth II on July 16, 2004. He is the recipient of the 2007 Charles Stark Draper Prize, given by the National Academy of Engineering (US).
The technical program of WWW2007 is almost complete, with the following 6 panels recently accepted:
WWW2007 panels will focus on emerging technologies, controversial issues, or unsolved problems in the World Wide Web community. Panels are expected to stimulate lively, thoughtful, and sometimes provocative discussions. Panelists are expected to actively engage the audience and help them broaden their understanding of the issues.

The deadline for early registration to WWW2007 is March 5, less than a week away! Register early if you can. Please keep in mind that registration fees automatically increase after the deadline.

The March 15 deadline for booking a room with the Banff Springs Hotel is fast approaching. The room block for WWW2007 conference attendees is already over 80% full, so please act quickly if you need a room.
When making your hotel reservation, please don't forget to identify yourself as a delegate for WWW2007 so that you are assigned to the conference room block and receive the special conference room rate.
