The Twelfth International World Wide Web Conference
20-24 May 2003, Budapest, HUNGARY
|
Short Abstract: |
Digital signatures and certificate based identification is one of today's hot
topics. Individual people as well as corporate and governmental institutes are
demanding or building up electronic signature based solutions to enhance
security, confidentiality and non-repudiation. Certificate Authorities
(CAs) are
at the very heart of this architecture, being a trusted third party in these
situations.
At the end of 2001, the Hungarian government introduced and accepted a bill in
order to enable the legal usage of electronic signatures. This bill is
conformant with the EU legislation of electronic signatures. As a result,
Hungarian CA-s begun to work or to be conformant to this law. MÁV INFORMATIKA
Ltd. was one of these firms. Based on the existing infrastructure we begun to
build up a nation wide CA, with all the necessary details. The presentation is
about the details of setting up such a service, including the basic components
(CA, RA, directories) as well as other, but still vital parts such as load
balancing and High Availability system, firewalls, intrusion detection etc.
However, having a technically working CA is only one part of the whole:
besides
the implementation, one has to look after the legal, financial,
staff-oriented,
educational and other aspects, and to try to avoid the not-so-evident
errors and
pitfalls of the regulations as well. The presentation covers some a part
of this
"synchronization" between tech and reality. |
