Curriculum Supplement

Mosaic has tremendous possibilities as a repository for supplemental curriculum materials. Teachers can be linked together to share ideas. As a teacher finds a particularly good site, it could be added to a grade and curriculum specific index. One proposal we have in Utah is to create a data bank available to all the schools throughout the state. This is one way to limit students' explorations to academic subjects and to prevent them accessing objectionable materials (no outside links will be provided to the students). The teacher, however, will have full access on a personal computer and can use it for demonstrations or the downloading of materials. If accepted, a team from Brigham Young University would initially develop the data bank. Various schools in the state could add class projects to it and individual teachers submit successful curriculum ideas. High school students would be encouraged to make contributions. Each school would have its own homepage containing its history and information about each class and students. Thus, schools throughout the state would be linked to create a network of classrooms without walls.
