Title: Lack of Local Content
Contact: Nathan Andibah Kwasam Kwasam@upng.ac.pg
Description:
How does one know that the kind of information he/she gets from any
website on a particular country/nation represents fully the local
content of that country?
I have evaluated more that 100 sites on Papua New Guinea (PNG) and found
that many of these sites misrepresent the local content or have
misleading information about the country. These sites are created by
people who have less information about the country. Many of the sites
have information that are unreliable and out of date. Many texts and
graphics are totally misleading the users.
The purpose of this meeting is to point out to webmasters that
information regarding or about a country and its unique culture has
to
be well evaluated before they appear on the web. It is aimed at
researchers, webmasters, academics and librarians who are interested
in
this part of the world and the sites which have information about PNG.
Many issues regarding the Internet in PNG can be discussed after the
display and presentation and many contacts can be made here.
