The Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency, the Honourable
Sir William Deane, AC, KBE, officially opened WWW7 this morning.In a speach that highlighted the growth of the Internet in Australia,
he said, "Australia rated 6th in the World for Internet users, and
5th in the World as Internet Hosts". He also outlined his own
observations, as a regular Internet user, about the issues of
copyright, harrassement, taxation and the net and also concerns
about pornography and its comercial presence on the Internet.In closing he wished that the delegates would gain much from
the conference and also take away good memories of their time
in Australia.
