WWW7 Virtual Edition - 10:00 am Friday 17th April 1998
Paul Saffo - Director Institute for the Future
- in a crowd pleasing
speach to delegates at WWW7, provided a novel insight
into the
future potential of the Web and encouraged delegates
to "look to
the mountain tops ... and try to get there before Bill
Gates."
"Venture Capitalists in Silicon Valley sleep
like babies - they
sleep for two hours and then wake up crying."
During the session, Paul discussed the relevance
of "disintermediation"
to the Web and posed the point that what we are really
beginning to
see is the emergence of "disinter-remediation" - a dynamic
process
that creates new business niches for new players in an
ever more
complexified commercial cyberspace.
"It is better to get further away from your customers
in the
right, rather than getting closer in the wrong way."
