    Companion Programs

    Bring a friend along! Everyone enjoys the California weather, atmosphere, and these special activities are sure to keep your friend busy while you are at the conference. We have made arrangements for the following activities:

    Additional programs may be available. See the Hospitality Desk at the WWW6 Registration area for more information.

    You may book your reservations at the Hospitality Desk at the WWW6 Registration area on Sunday, April 6, from 1:00-4:00 pm, on Monday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 8, from 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon.

    Any tour booking fewer than 20 persons is subject to cancellation. All tours will originate at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

    There will be limited shuttle service to and from Cal Train's Lawrence Station on Tuesday and Thursday for participants and companions who wish to travel to Palo Alto/Stanford, San Francisco, and points in between.

    A shuttle will depart from the Convention Center at 9:30 AM to connect with CalTrain's 10:11 AM northbound train. A return shuttle will depart from the Lawrence Station at 6:30 pm and return to the Conference hotels and the Convention Center.

    Special Events

    Everything at the conference is especially prepared for you! These are activities that you won't want to miss:

    Monday, April 7th
    Exposition Opening

    The Expo Opening will be on Monday night from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm and will include an opportunity to discuss Poster Presentations with their authors as well as a chance to mingle with the technologists and exhibitors. The event is included in registration fees for attendees. Refreshments will be provided, be sure to bring the drink coupons included in your registration packet. Companions may purchase tickets for $35.

    Wednesday, April 9th
    Great America Fun Night

    Paramount's Great America Theme Park will be limited to conference participants for this special night of fun! Gates open at 6:00 pm and close at 10:00 pm. Conference Registration includes most main attractions, all you can eat food and drinks (beer, too). You will be able to purchase souvenirs so bring a little spending money. There are lockers to check personal belongings inside the gate of Great America as well as ATM machines.

    Whether's it's dropping at freefall speeds on the Dropzone or doing several 360s on the latest 'coaster, thrills will be the theme of the night. There will be two special IMAX screenings, strolling musicians and abundant good food and cheer.

    Shuttles will depart from both Conference Hotels and the Convention Center directly to Great America and return. For those guests not registered at the Conference wishing to enjoy this exciting evening, tickets can be purchased at the Information Desk. The cost for each additional entrance pass is $50.00. Ticket sales for this event will close on Tuesday, April 8, at 12:00 Noon.

    Conference Site

    The Santa Clara Convention Center is a state-of-the-art 262,000 square foot facility. It is part of the innovative Santa Clara Trade and Convention Center complex. The adjacent 500 room, four-diamond Westin Hotel, Santa Clara and Techmart, the marketing center of Silicon Valley are also part of the complex.

    The City of Santa Clara is located at the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay in the internationally-known "Silicon Valley." It exemplifies the blending of the old and the new by offering a home to giant computer and aerospace companies. In Santa Clara you will find Northern California's largest theme park, golf and tennis along with high-tech attractions.

    General Conference Information

    Conference Information Desk

    The Sixth International World Wide Web Conference Information Desk will be located in the Convention Center Lobby and open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm on Monday and 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday through Friday.

    Badge Control

    In order to insure the integrity and security of the Sixth International World Wide Web Conference, we request that all attendees wear their name badges at all times. Entry to the Conference Center and rooms at the Westin Hotel will be denied to those not possessing a badge.

    Meals

    The following meals are included in conjunction with the WWW6:

    Monday - Morning refreshment breaks, lunch, evening reception
    Tuesday - Morning refreshment breaks, lunch
    Wednesday - Morning refreshment breaks, lunch, evening at Great America includes dinner
    Thursday - Morning refreshment breaks, lunch
    Friday - Morning refreshment breaks, lunch

    * If you are not signed up for Developer's Day but wish to stay for History Day, to ensure a lunch on Friday you must pick up a ticket at the Information Desk by Wednesday at 12:00 Noon.

    Conference Shuttle Transportation

    The conference shuttle service will run from 7:15am to 9:00am each morning.

    The evening times are different each night. On Tuesday nd Wednesday, shuttles run from 5:00pm to 11:00pm; on Thursday and Friday, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. During these times, shuttles will circulate between the Convention Center and the Conference hotels at approximately 20-minute intervals, depending on local traffic. These shuttles are complimentary.

    There is also limited shuttle service to and from Cal Train's Lawrence Station on Tuesday and Thursday for participants and companions who wish to travel to Palo Alto/Stanford, San Francisco, and points in between.

    A shuttle will depart from the Convention Center at 9:30 AM to connect with CalTrain's 10:11 AM northbound train. A return shuttle will depart from the Lawrence Station at 6:30 pm and return to the Convention Center. From the Convention Center, connect with a shuttle to return to the hotels.

    Access Support

    Assistance and support for accessibility issues will be featured in the Access Room, Ballroom E, Monday through Thursday. This includes support services for disabled participants, support for presenters and exhibitors and demonstrations of Access Technologies.

    Business Center

    A full service business center is located at the Westin Hotel adjacent to the Santa Clara Convention Center. In addition to fax capabilities, attendees will be able to arrange package shipping. Rate sheets are available at the Information Desk.

    Computer Areas

    Attendees will find access to the internet in many locations throughout the Convention Center. Sponsorship from Apple Computer, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Corporation allowed us to place general access systems throughout the main lobbies of the Convention Center. Use these systems for quick access to conference information on ICE.

    The following rooms will be open from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm for your convenience. All systems have Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator installed.

      Great America 1 - 50 systems including Windows95, WindowsNT and MacOS
      Room 202 - 20 systems including WindowsNT and MacOS
      Room 208 - 20 systems including WindowsNT and MacOS

    Security

    Security guards are present at the WWW6 to protect you and the equipment inside the convention center. When a guard asks you for your name badge or to complete a property pass, please cooperate.

    Smoking

    Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the convention center. Smokers must use outdoor smoking area.

    In Case of Emergency

    A medical technician is on call at the conference. Go to the Information Desk if you need emergency assistance. For other types of assistance:

    Earthquake

    In case of an earthquake, please remain calm and take shelter under a stable object. Face away from any glass. Remain where you are until the shaking stops. If directed to evacuate the conventions center, proceed to the nearest designated exit (see conference map). Do not use the elevators.

    Fire

    In case of a fire, please leave the building by the closest safe exit. Do not use the elevators.

    In case of any emergency, do not return to the building until authorities give the all clear.
