Why come to Lyon
You may have heard of Lyon’s great gastronomy and rich history but did you know that for cinema-lovers, this is where it all began?
Indeed it is in Lyon, in the Montplaisir area in 1895 that the renown engineers Lumière brothers Auguste and Louis patented their version of the cinematograph, a motion picture film camera. With this invention, they produced the first ‘films’, short videos of less than a minute depicting different settings.
Today one can visit their old family home now the museum Institut Lumière that pays homage to the Lumière brothers and showcases their finest discoveries in an elegant setting.
