Web History

The goal of this track is to make a return on the history of the Web, on its origins its evolutions and its current state, but also to make a little prospective about its future.

This track is made of three parts:

  • Invited keynote presentations:
    Schedule: Friday April 27th – 11:00am-12:20pm
    Speakers:
    • Bebo White
      Bebo was a physicist at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and he has been a member of the team that created the first web site in the United States (5th in the world, 1st outside of Europe). He can be considered as the first webmaster in the United States.
    • Jean-François Abramatic
      Jean-François was senior scientist at Inria when he created the european host of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 1995. He was Chairman of W3C from 1996 to 2001 and Chairman of WWW5, the fifth international World Wide Web conference organized in Paris in 1996.
    • Prof. Dame Wendy Hall
      Wendy has been involved in the World Wide Web since the very beginning. She is a founder and current Director of the Web Science Trust. She is currently chair of the IW3C2.

  • Testimonies
    Schedule: Friday April 27th – 1:40pm-2:30pm
    Some people who were involved very early in the deployment and evolutions of the Web will share their testimonies.
  • Questions / answers
    Schedule: Friday April 27th – 2:30pm-3:00pm
    Exchanges between speakers, testimonies and all participants.
