Call for Papers – Practice and Experience Track
The submission deadline has already passed. The list of accepted papers will be published on February 8.
The Practice and Experience track solicits high quality papers reporting on practical issues and experiences encountered in applying novel research results and methods in
developing and deploying web-scale applications (commercial or academic), and in the use of real-world web-scale data for business insights and for user experience.
Articles should be written in a scientific rather than sales style if a product is described. Demonstrations (when appropriate) are encouraged as part of the submission
(via a URL to the actual system or a recording of its use).
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following (all cases refer to Large-scale systems/applications and Big Data):
- Mobile, multi-screen, and multimedia applications
- Methodologies and insights from controlled experiments
- User modeling, personalization, privacy and anonymization
- Emerging markets and accessibility (web access beyond the first billion)
- Crowdsourcing and human computation
- Entity extraction, and knowledge building
- Computational advertising
- Batch and on-line processing and modeling
- Interactive visualization and monitoring
- Data-driven journalism, medicine, and finance
- User studies, ethnographic studies, and evaluation
- Personal information management
- Engagement metrics and economic models
- The web and the real world (online and offline behavior, Web Science, etc.)
- Search in novel domains and new search paradigms
- Experiences in developing, and using open source software
- Participatory platforms and grass-roots movements (e.g., citizen journalism, lobbying, etc.)
- Adversarial challenges (denial of service attacks, spoofing, spam, cloaking, etc.)
- Enterprise-specific deployments and systems
- Distributed computing and platforms
- Start-up experiences in developing, deploying, and scaling
- Insights and Business intelligence

Paper Submission Requirements
The WWW 2013 conference seeks papers with novel contributions in web technologies. Paper submissions must:
- be written in English;
- contain author names, affiliations, and email addresses;
- use the ACM SIG Proceedings template with the font size no smaller than 9pt (http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates);
- be in PDF (make sure that the PDF can be viewed on any platform);
- be formatted for the US Letter size;
- occupy no more than ten pages, including the abstract and appendices, but excluding references.
It is the authors’ responsibility to ensure that their submissions adhere strictly to the required format. Submissions that do not comply with the above guidelines will be rejected without review.
Originality of Papers
Authors must not submit previously published work, submit the same work simultaneously to other venues, or submit plagiarized material of others’ work. These actions will form grounds for WWW to ban the papers from the program. Note that the program committee may share the information about submitted papers with other conference committees and journal editors. If plagiarism is detected, the program chairs may notify the institutions of the authors, and publish the details of the case.
Data publication policy
For scientific rigor and repeatability we would like to encourage authors to publish all data and code used for the submitted work. However, we are fully aware of the user privacy issues concerning the data publication and do not make data publication a requirement for paper submission or presentation.

Camera-Ready Preparation
Accepted papers will appear in the online conference proceedings published by the ACM Digital Library and the conference’s web site. Authors of accepted papers will retain intelectual property rights to their work, but will be required to sign a copyright release form to IW3C2.
Author registration policy
Accepted refereed papers, posters, and demos must be presented at the conference by an author who is registered to attend. We strongly encourage at least one author of your work to register early-bird deadline so that session chairs can make plans for its presentation.
