Call for Web Science track

The Web Science track in www2012 will provide an opportunity to discuss the developments in the interdisciplinary area of Web Science, which studies the Web not only as a technological infrastructure but also as a phenomenon that is influenced by society and business and has an impact across the whole range of human activity. This track will comprise involve panels and a poster session involving researchers from laboratories and groups heavily engaged in Web Science research. It will discuss some of the key challenges in studying and understanding the Web.

Main conference participants are strongly encouraged to attend but the track also welcomes attendees from the wider Web Science community who would not normally attend the WWW conference; the aim is to encourage a lively discussion of Web Science challenges from the widest range of perspectives and disciplines. The Web Science track will include the following activities :

  • Panel sessions on Web Science research infrastructures, experiences of interdisciplinary work, Web Science research projects and curricula. The panel sessions will discuss a wide range of relevant research activity but also focus on specific challenges that the community is currently working to address.
  • A Poster session that will provide a forum for research laboratories or groups to showcase research activities at their institutions and to look for opportunities for collaborative research. It will also provide a setting for sharing ideas about Web Science curricula.

Submission guideline :

The track invites the submission of technical reports from research laboratories or groups that engage in Web Science research; topics include but are not restricted to: Open Data initiatives, privacy and trust, social networking, cyber warfare, hacktivism, Web topology, Web governance, the Linked Data Web, the economics of the Web, philosophy and the Web and the general area of Web Science curriculum development.

Following a review by the committee, the authors of successful submissions will be invited to participate in panels and/or the poster session.

Submissions should be up to 6 pages (11pt font) in PDF (.pdf, preferred), HTML (.html), plain-text (.txt) or Word (.doc) format to https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wwwwebsci2012

Successful submissions will be published online by the Web Science Trust. Posters will be displayed in a dedicated poster area and a prize will be awarded for the Best Poster (sponsored by the Web Science Trust).
