Smart Devices and the Web

Mobile devices now feature sensors, rich multimedia support, versatile connectivity, and significant computational resources. This, in combination with the cloud computing paradigm, is making the vision of ubiquitous computing a reality. Simultaneously, mobile access to the Web today still suffers from interoperability and usability problems. Interoperability issues stem from the platform fragmentation of mobile devices, mobile operating systems, and browsers. Usability problems are typically centered on the small physical form factor of the mobile phone.

This track solicits the submission of original research papers dealing with significant issues and innovative solutions for Smart Devices and Mobile Web Access. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to :

  • Interoperability (communication, formats, application platforms, APIs)
  • Interoperability of mobile applications
  • Mobile and ubiquitous access to the Web
  • Security, privacy and trust in mobile devices and applications, privacy management
  • Mobile Web applications, device APIs & policy
  • UI/UX (frameworks, approaches, multimodal, haptic, 3D, etc.)
  • Multimodal access
  • Novel interaction techniques, intelligent mobile UIs,
  • Mobile Web interfaces and tangible/haptic interaction techniques
  • Toolkits, testbeds, development environments for mobile Web applications
  • Aspects germane to mobile devices (sensors, location, context, technical limitations)
  • Multimedia content for mobile use, innovations in mobile multimedia
  • Scalability and performance of Web apps on mobile devices
  • Location-based services, context awareness
  • Enhanced sensing capabilities, location-based services and geo-spatial applications
  • Sensors and hardware integration, e.g. location, device orientation
  • Social aspects of mobile Web
  • Personalization, personal data cloud, cloud computing
  • Sharing and social communities in mobile systems
  • Mobile collaboration and cooperation, social networking
  • Ubiquitous computing as a broader topic than mere « mobile devices »
  • Ubiquitous computing and the Web
  • Implementations and experimental mobile systems
