Welcome to WWW2003! On behalf of the Posters Committee, I would like to brief you on the exciting Posters Program this year.
Although the posters are limited in the presentation length, they provide an ideal opportunity for conference attendees to learn about new and innovative work-in-progress, and to preview on-going research projects that might not yet be complete, but whose preliminary results are already interesting.
This year we received a record total of 295 poster submissions representing a sharp 80% increase over the last year's 164. Due to the excellent quality papers submitted to the refereed track, we received 87 recommended posters from the Program Committee, representing an increase of 123% from the previous year's 39. Each of the remaining posters was sent out to at least three reviewers in the Poster Committee. Based on originality, significance, quality, and clarity, the Posters Committee selected 120 posters, bringing a total of 207 posters to be presented at the WWW2003.
For the purpose of organizational and readability, the final posters are divided into the following eight categories: (1) Performance, (2) Search and Data Mining, (3) E-Commerce and E-Learning, (4) Semantic Web, (5) XML and Web Service, (6) Multimedia, (7) Networking, and (8) UI, Applications, and Visualization.
I would like to thank the 33 experts who form the Poster Committee this year. Their expertise and hard work have played an important role in making this year's the largest and hopefully the most successful Poster Track ever. I would also like to thank my Deputy Chair, Tamas Maray and the support from Tamas Kezdi and Richter Viktor for their help in making the Poster Track possible.
A quick reminder: There will be two Poster Prizes, the Best Poster and the Best Student Poster, to be awarded at the WWW2003. I invite you to take part in the selection process of these two poster awards by attending the Welcome/Poster Reception on Wednesday, May 21. Take your time to visit these posters and interact with the presenters before you vote. Moreover, I invite you to participate in the Closing Ceremony on Friday, May 23, where the winners will be announced and the prizes awarded.
It is my sincere hope that you will enjoy the technical activities: tutorials, workshops, keynotes, paper sessions, poster sessions, and speeches at WWW2003, in the beautiful city of Budapest.
