HTML Paper Submission Guidelines

All paper submissions must be in English.
All material on each page must be printable within a rectangle of 18 x 23.5 cm (7" x 9.25") from standard browser (Netscape 4.0+, Internet Explorer 4.0+) using the CSS style sheet provided.
The total number of words should not exceed 8,000 words
Please adhere to the following layout order when writing your papers:
- Title
- Authors
- Affiliations
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Approximate word counts
- Section
- Main body of text
- Sub-sections (if applicable)
- Captions under images
- Acknowledgements
- Appendix
- References
- Author vitae (optional)
Complicated equations and codes should be rendered into an image file (.jpg or .gif).
The HTML file and all relevent images should be compiled into a zip file and uploaded onto the WWW2002 conference paper submission site.

CSS Style Sheet Formatting

Please incorporate the following javascript into the <head> of your document's source code:

Please keep the html code as simple as possible so that the style sheet can control the look of the paper.
- Do not include any personal document level style sheets in your html source. These will be removed.
- Do not specify parameters such as background color, font sizes, margins, etc. All special formating codes will be removed.
- Do not use double columns or other layout formatting. All papers will be converted to a simple single-column layout.
Please use the following html tags in the source of your paper:
- <h1> and <h2> - Title (select tag relative to the length of your paper title)
- <h3>, <h4>, and <h5> - Names of sections and appropriate sub-sections
- <h6> - Names of author(s) (under the title)
- <h6 class="caption"> - Captions (under images)
- <p> - New paragraph will begin with an indent
- <ul>, <ol>, and <dl> - Listings
- <pre> - Code samples should be enclosed within

Graphics

Image formats accepted are: EPS, TIFF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, SVG
All images should be saved at a minimum of 300 dpi to avoid reproduction problems.
All images must be centered.
Captions should follow immediately under the image (use <h6 class="caption"> tags for this).
Leave one blank line before and after each image (including the caption)

XHTML Specifications

WWW2002 expects authors to produce their papers to the current W3C standard for HTML which is XHTML. That mainly means that tags should be in lower case, start and end tags should be properly nested and tag and attribute names should be in lower case.
There is a validator and a tidy program on the W3C site. The first will check the validity of your HTML while the second can take HTML and generate well formed XHTML assuming that the HTML is not so bad that it is not possible to understand the intent (in which case browsers will also have problems).
Visit http://validator.w3.org/ for the validator. We only expect conformance to XHTML Transitional.
Visit http://www.w3.org/People/Raggett/tidy/ for the Tidy program which is a robust code that has been in use for at least the last five years. It will tidy up your HTML, add end tags as required by XHTML, and has the ability to strip all the Word 2000 specific information from an HTML document making it significantly smaller.
If you are unable to produce an XHTML version of your paper, we are prepared to accept valid HTML 4.0 but reserve the right to do the conversion to XHTML before putting it up on the web site.
