As XML and the many related standards greatly augment the richness and capabilities of the Web, there is no domain of computer science left without impact. In this respect, the APPLICATIONS track of WWW2002 considers all areas of computer science as potential "applications" of the Web. Of course, industrial sectors like "oil" or "automotive", too, remain application domains suitable for the track.

The APPLICATIONS track particularly encourages contributions which are specific to an application domain yet of high impact and of value to a large audience. In particular, we encourage submissions describing broadly applicable concepts, methods, tools, and systems. Such submissions are most suited for the APPLICATIONS track if they focus on an area of computer science, on an industrial sector, or on a horizontal service.
