Aloha to WWW2002! On behalf of the Posters Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to brief you on the Posters Program this year.
Although the posters are limited in the presentation length, they provide an ideal opportunity for conference attendees to learn about new and innovative work-in-progress, and to preview on-going research projects that might not yet be complete, but whose preliminary results are already interesting.
This year we received a total of 164 poster submissions representing a 25% increase over the previous year. The Program Committee recommended thirty-nine posters from the Refereed Paper Track. Each of the remaining posters was sent out to at least three reviewers. Based on originality, significance, quality, and clarity, the Posters Committee selected 72 posters, bringing a total of 107 posters to be presented at the Welcome/Poster Reception. Table 1 summarizes the statistics for the Poster Program.

For organizational and readability purpose, the final posters are divided into the following five categories: (1) Applications and User Interface, (2) Browsers and Tools, (3) E-Commerce, Security, and Performance, (4) Searching, Querying, and Indexing, and (5) XML and Semantic Web.
As the success of the Posters Program is dependent on the dedication of the reviewers, I would like to express my gratitude to the members of the Posters Committee for their expert and responsible reviews which helped to guide the final poster selection process. No less important is the wonderful logistical support from Ms. Jodi-Ann Ito and Ms. Iris Takamiya. Mahalo to them!
A quick reminder. There will be two Poster Prizes, the Best Poster and the Best Student Poster, to be awarded at the WWW2002. I invite you to take part in the selection process of these two poster awards by attending the Welcome/Poster Reception on May 8. Take your time to visit these posters and interact with the presenters before you vote. Moreover, I invite you to participate in the Closing Ceremony on May 11, where the winners will be announced and the prizes awarded.
It is my sincere hope that you will enjoy the technical activities: tutorials, workshops, keynotes, paper sessions, poster sessions, and speeches at www2002.
