On 7-11 May 2002, Honolulu, Hawaii provided the backdrop for The Eleventh International World Wide Web Conference. This prestigious series of the International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW³C²) attracted over 900 participants from around the world, and provided a public forum for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) through the annual W3C track. Registered participants from 36 countries interacted over the five event filled days:

The 3 day technical program was preceded by day of tutorial and workshop sessions. Following the main conference was a "Developers Day" devoted to in-depth technical sessions designed specifically for web developers.

The conference was organized by the International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW³C²), the University of Hawaii and the Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC).

Featured Keynote Speakers Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and Director of the W3C who now holds the 3Com Founders chair at the Laboratory for Computer Science (LCS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Opening Keynote: Specs count Richard A. DeMillo, vice president and chief technology officer for Hewlett-Packard Company. Keynote Address: New Foundations for Trust and the Web Ian Foster, guru of "Grid Computing", associate division director, senior scientist, and head of the Distributed Systems Lab, Mathematics & Computer Science, Argonne National Laboratory, and a professor of Computer Science at the University of Chicago.
