6 Conclusion

CAVEview was designed to take Mosaic into the realm of interactive three dimensional computer graphics. As shown at VROOM SIGGRAPH 94. CAVEview has been successful in meeting this goal. However, there are serious security problems with it's implementation and may not be realistic for widespread use on the Web. The security problem lies within the dynamic linking procedure which, in effect, runs the CAVE application locally. Any process a user runs on his workstation has the same rights and privileges as the user himself. Therefore, any process running in a CAVEview application has access to the file system of the machine that it is running on. As the number of Mosaic users grow, there will be a greater need for a system such as CAVEview. Future interactive 3D graphical systems for Mosaic should be cross platform, standardized, easy to use, and have a minimal security risk.
