Biography
Mirjana Spasojevic received the B.S. degree in
mathematics from the University of Belgrade in 1986, and the M.S. and
Ph.D. degrees in computer science from The Pennsylvania State
University, in 1989 and 1991, respectively. She is currently working as
a Member of Technical Staff at Transarc Corporation. Prior to joining Transarc,
she was an Assistant Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science, Washington State University. Her research
interests include distributed operating systems and data management.

C. Mic Bowman is a Member of Technical Staff for
Transarc Corporation. From 1990 through 1993 he was an Assistant
Professor of Computer Science at the Pennsylvania State University. He
received his Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of Arizona in
1990. He is a member of the IRTF for resource discovery. His research
interests include descriptive naming systems for local and wide area
file systems, resource discovery, and protocols for remote computing.

Alfred Z. Spector is president and chief executive
officer of Transarc Corporation. Before founding Transarc, Dr. Spector
was a professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University and
the director of CMU's Information Technology Center. While at CMU,
Dr. Spector was a member of the US Army Science Board, receiving a
Patriotic Civilian Service Award for his years of involvement with the
board. He is also a former chairman of the Symposium of Operating System
Principles. Dr. Spector received an A.B. degree in Applied Mathematics
from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford
University. He is a featured speaker at industry conferences, promoting
