John Chen is chairman, CEO and president of Sybase, Inc., one of the largest global independent software companies. He has global responsibility for the company's four divisions that were created under his leadership as part of a move to provide customers with targeted, market-driven business solutions. Mr. Chen sets the strategic direction for the company and plays an integral role in developing relationships with customers, partners and stockholders.
Prior to joining Sybase, Mr. Chen was CEO and president of Siemens Pyramid, the $3 billion Open Enterprise Computing Division of Siemens Nixdorf. Mr. Chen also served as a member of the executive board of directors for the company's German parent, Siemens Nixdorf Informationsysteme, AG. In 1995, Chen negotiated the merger between Siemens Nixdorf and Pyramid Technology Corporation, where he was chairman of the board and CEO for the $275 million UNIX-based systems company. He held a number of executive positions with Pyramid Technology including president, chief operating officer, and executive vice president of product technology operations.
Before joining Pyramid Technology Corporation, Chen spent 13 years at Unisys, where he was the vice president and general manager of the $500 million Unisys Convergent UNIX Systems Group as well as vice president and general manager of the $125 million Unisys Convergent RISC Platform Division.
Mr. Chen currently serves as a member of the board of directors for CIT and TurboLinux. In addition, he sits on the board and is a member of many distinguished professional associations including: Chinese Software Professionals Association, Business Software Alliance (member) and Committee of 100, a prestigious think tank made up of nationally visible Asian American thought and business leaders.
